Cyclones Defeated in First Game
The Highway 91 Cyclones had a rough start Thursday August 21 with a loss against the Polk County, David CIty, Slammers. The Slammers started by putting runs on the board in the first inning, but the Cyclones responded with a home run by junior Shaylynn Marty.
The Cyclones hung with the Slammers for much of the game, but the Slammers pulled away in the final innings. Both teams hit the ball well with three home runs all together.
This year’s team is small but experienced. Lexie Bruhn is the single freshmen; Dani Dirkschneider is the sophomore; Matelynn Rayback, Shaylynn Marty, and Bailey Rios are the juniors; and Grace Hansen, Reese Bruhn, Allie Dirkschneider, Reann Bruhn, and Rebecca Hastreiter are the seniors.
The Cyclones are coached by head coach Drew Machmueller, and assistant coaches Payje Rayback and Breana Rowe. The student managers are Londyn Dirkschneider, Lainey Dirkschneider, and Andi Machmueller
Senior Grace Hansen said, “We started the game off strong and improved throughout the game. We struggled getting the bats going, which didn't give us the outcome we wanted, but we will continue to work hard in practice, so we will be ready to take on Boone Central.”
Coach Machmueller said, “We return a lot of experience to this year’s team, so we have the potential to turn some things around this year compared to previous seasons. Ultimately, we will get the results we earn.”
