Student Opinion: Boys and Girls are Fundamentally Different
The Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary defines gender to be the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex. Science and God both say there are two sexes, male and female, with males having XY chromosomes and females having XX chromosomes. Referring back to the dictionary, gender is associated with traits from one sex, either male or female, no other.
When asking Google how many genders there are, its response is, “Gender is a spectrum, and people identify with a wide range of gender identities beyond the traditional binary of male and female. Some common gender identities include male, female, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, and agender, but many other identities also exist.”
In the 20th century, Google is not wrong. Thousands of people across America do associate themselves with a non “traditional” gender. This is the reality we live in. But despite what woke ideology tells us to believe, is losing a common concept on what a woman is or what the difference between the two genders are a danger to modern society? In my opinion, yes.
Anyone outside of the womb would know there is and will always be a difference between a girl and boy. Males on average have a larger ventricular system, larger lung capacity, and greater muscle mass than women. Men cannot be women and women cannot be men. If an individual identifies themselves as something other than the two sexes, I believe it is a danger to society.
Growing up in a rural town in Nebraska, I have not experienced what many others have experienced. I have not had to experience men in women’s sports, men in women’s spaces, or men changing their bodies and lifestyle to be a woman. My biggest issue with transgender ideology is the loss of common sense it promotes, and the indoctrinating of children to believe in something that is no greater than a thought.
Taking hormone therapy or reducing the amount of testosterone a male has will still not dismantle the pure advantage men have over women in sports. I compare men and women in the sense of sports because it starkly outlines the differences between men and women.
On March 18, 2022, the history of women's sport changed. Riley Gaines, a former competitive swimmer for the University of Kentucky's NCAA women's swim team, competed in the 200m freestyle against Lia Thomas, a biological male swimmer. Lia and Riley tied, with Thomas receiving the trophy, beating dozens of biological females. In the same situation, Thomas was allowed to change in the same locker room with the rest of the female athletes leading to extreme discomfort.
In another instance, Payton McNabb, a former high school volleyball player, was spiked in the face by a volleyball with the hit coming from a biological male who identified as a trans woman. The accident resulted in Payton being partly paralyzed on the right side of her body with parts of her brain being damaged.
In February, history changed again, as President Donald Trump signed an executive order eliminating female-identifying individuals (men), from women’s sports.
It’s obvious and clear girls and boys are different, but to some around the country, inclusivity is their main focus. I do believe every person in the world should be fairly treated no matter their race, gender, or ethnicity, but a person should not be allowed to pose as their opposite gender demanding the same treatments and rights. Allowing men to be woman can be irrevocably harmful to children around the globe. Growing up being told you decide who you are with your sex leads to confusion and disillusionment. Gender-affirming care, which is the transitioning of one’s body to “turn” them into the opposite sex, has serious health and mental consequences on young children. Mutilizing a child’s body has irreversible effects, as these changes will last forever and deprive a child of a normal childhood.
Participating in a relay race against the boys in my class, us girls would unequivocally lose, even if each boy had to run twice. The weights we lift in the gym are always heavier for the boys because they have greater muscle mass. The way we talk, walk, and act are traits of our genders. Separating the differences from males and females, we are undeniably very different, but that’s not to say that’s bad. The most unique aspect about society is we are all different.
Even if you’re a boy and enjoy doing girl things or dressing femininely, you are still a boy, and that’s ok. If you are a girl and are considered a tomboy because you like doing things boys do, that’s ok too. In my opinion, and in truth, girls and boys will never be the same, and that’s ok, but posing as your opposite gender, leading others to believe you’re something you aren’t is detrimental to your overall health and the way society functions.
