Leigh One-Act Performing Broadway Classic

The Leigh High School One-Act play production team is ready to perform, preparing for their upcoming performances and competitions. This year’s team is one of the biggest teams in history with 62 cast and crew members!

This year’s production is the Broadway classic, “A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum” by producers Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart. The music is by Stephen Sondheim.

The story takes us way back into ancient Rome and a scandalous plot by slave Pseudolus (Wyatt Langhorst) to win his freedom.  The lovesick son Hero (Cash Fehringer) is staying behind while his battleax mother Domina (Sydney Messerlie) and scandalous father Senex (Tyce Larson) are off to visit Domina’s mother. Hysterium, the trusty slave-in-chief (Luke Eisenmann), has to look over Hero while they are gone. Unfortunately for the ever-worried Hysterium, Hero has his heart set on finding his one true love, Philia (Reese Wietfeld), and Pseudolus (Langhorst) plans to help him in exchange for his freedom. But the only problem is that Philia is a courtesan from the house of Marcus Lycus (Trevor Hoffman) set to be sold to the great warrior, Miles Gloriosis (Wyatt Eisenmann) that came back from war to fetch his bride. More hilarity ensues when you throw old man Erronius (Liz Hoffman), who is searching for his long-lost children, into the mix, as well as other soldiers, courtesans, and eunuchs.

The play is directed by Mrs. Justine Fischer and assisted by Mrs. Megan Hillen, Mrs. Michelle Held, and Mrs. Kamin Held. Dennis and Linda Hillen are helping once again with set design and construction, and Loretta Tejkl is helping with set design and costuming. Special thanks to Mr. Jarrod Bazata’s shop class for all their help with the set as well.

Actor Wyatt Eisenmann, who plays Miles Gloriosis, said, “The season is going pretty good and we are working on dialing in our lines. We are really excited to share our play with everyone on November 30 and again at Districts in Leigh on December 3!”
