Students Compete at District Music Contest

The Leigh band and choir traveled to Norfolk on Friday, April 24 to compete at the District Music Contest. Each entry is ranked with outstanding (1), excellent (2) or good (3).

The Leigh Women's Choir and Leigh High Band both received a 2.

Small groups were a trumpet trio of Cade Hoesly, Blake Loseke and Brayden Loseke earning a 2. Sydney Messerlie and Elizabeth Hoffman did a vocal duet receiving a 2 and Mia Glissman-Mayner and Sofia Hake also did a vocal duet and received a 2. Sydney Messerlie, Elizabeth Hoffman, Mia Glissman-Mayner, and Sofia Hake competed in a vocal quartet and earned a 2. Madisyn Lich, Emily Waterman, Kaycee Lange, and Ariyah Ross also competed in a vocal quartet and received a 3.

Vocal solos included Mia Glissman-Mayner earning a 2 rating, and Sydney Messerlie earning a 2 rating.

Instrumental Solos included Kaycee Lange earning a 1 rating and Lexis Gleason earning a 1 rating! 

Wyatt Langhorst also received a 2 for his baritone solo. 

Choir director and band director Sydney Wemhoff, said, “We are proud of all of our students for their hard work and performances at contest. Their dedication and preparation were reflected in the strong ratings they earned!”

Junior Hannah Martensen said, "Competing at district music contests was overall a success for the high school band, choir, and individual or group performances. As a band, we performed the best we possibly could and ended up receiving a high 2. District music contest is something I look forward to every year as it's always fun as we get to compete as a team for a band!”
