Leigh Fares Well at District Music
On April 25th, the Leigh band and choir travelled to Norfolk High School to compete at the District Music Contest. Each entry was ranked with outstanding (1), excellent (2), or good (3).
The Leigh Choir received a rating of 2.
The Leigh band received ratings of 1, 2, and 2, from 3 different judges.
Small groups who competed were the vocal trio of Emily Waterman, Alisyn Lich, and Madisyn Lich, which received a 3; the trumpet duet composed of Blake Loseke and Brayden Loseke, receiving a 2; the low brass duet composed of Emily Stender and Brianne Kuhr, which received a 2; and the vocal duet composed of Amaiya Ross and Ariyah Ross, which received a 2.
Vocal soloists who competed were Sydney Messerlie, who received a 1; Amaiya Ross, who received a 1; Paige Kurpgeweit, who received a 2; and Clayton Folken, who received a 2.
Instrumental solos included a trombone solo by Emily Stender and a Baritone solo by Brianne Kuhr. Both solos received a 2.
Junior saxophone player Jocelyn Donnelly said, "District music went great! Each member really showed how hard they have been working throughout the year to perfect the songs we performed. Overall, it was a great experience for Leigh band and we can't wait for next year."
Band and choir director Sydney Wemhoff said, “I’m very proud of our high school music students and how well they did at the District Music Contest. A lot of students stepped up this year to try solos and small ensembles, and they all found success. It takes a lot of courage to perform in front of judges, and our students handled it with confidence and professionalism. They represented our school so well, and it was exciting to see their hard work pay off.”
