FFA Week Festivities a Hit!
National FFA Week ran this year from February 21-28, and the Leigh chapter went all out this year to celebrate this special week and promote the Leigh chapter.
FFA Advisor Mrs. Went stated, “National FFA Week reminds us that agriculture is more than an industry. It’s leadership, service, and opportunity. Through FFA, our students are growing not only as agriculturists, but as confident leaders ready to cultivate the future.”
On Monday, the school was invited to dress up, “Here by the Flag”, wearing their red, white, and blue to support the chapter. Along with that dress up day, the members embarked on their annual cornhole tournament. Once again for the three-peat, Mr. Fischer and Mr. Faltys both came through for the win. Also beginning Monday, the duck hunt also began. The entire school, Pre-K through Seniors, were included. With hiding little toy ducks around the school, whenever a little duck is found, the student then got to go and put it in one of the officer’s bags for them to be pied at the end of the week. Yet no matter how many or how little you get in your bag, the officers all get to be pied. This was just a fun little way to get everyone involved and looking forward to the week!
Next on Tuesday, the 24th, the dress up style of the day was wearing your boots and buckles. Along with that, the FFA members hosted a teacher breakfast before school. FFA members arrived early to prepare bacon, sausage, donuts, pancakes, milk, and orange juice for all teachers. While the teachers had that wonderful breakfast, donuts were handed out to all the students in the school as they walked into the doors.
Wednesday, the 25th, was Hat Day and drive your best truck to get rated. “Cleanest Truck” went to Cody Jedlicka, “Dirtiest Truck” went to Layton Held, “Oldest Trucks” went to Blair Wietfeld and Wyatt Eisenmann, “Newest Truck” Quentin Mullenhoff, and “Most Modified Truck” Luke Wellman.
Getting to the end of the week on Thursday, the 26th, it was Farmer’s Day Off, or in other words “Pajama Day!” Students were able to dress comfy while doing well on their MAPs testing in the morning. Also, that day was a logo hunt and the ducks were continuing to be found and brought in for the officers to get pied!
Junior FFA Treasurer, Reese Wietfeld said, “FFA Week is a great week for our chapter to get everyone involved! We did various activities such as dress up days, logo hunts, the teacher breakfast, and so much more! Our chapter officers had fun running this week and seeing all the students participate! FFA week means a lot to everyone and it's a great way to get the whole school engaged!”
Finally, to round off the week, on Friday the 27th, the members wore their FFA shirts. Along with those their annual “Drive your Tractor to School Day” also took place. Many different colors of equipment were brought into the parking lot to be shown off. There was a total of 15 tractors and one semi in the lot!
Lastly, the week concluded with the elementary students getting to use their ducks to vote which officer to pie. Senior officer Luke Eisenmann had the most votes (ducks) with 150. But all the officer team was pied along with him, and in many instances the younger sibling of the officer was the one who got to deliver the pie to the face while their classmates looked on!
