Leigh is Runner-Up in Conference Quiz Bowl!
In a battle of the brains, the Leigh High School Quiz Bowl team took second place at the East Husker Conference Quiz Bowl competition on Monday, March 31 at Clarkson High School.
This year’s quiz bowl team consisted of members Brianne Kuhr, Elizabeth Hoffman, Brayden Loseke, Luke Eisenmann, Brett Wemhoff, and Trevor Hoffman.
In pool play of the competition, Leigh faced off against Tekamah-Herman, winning 140-10. Leigh then beat Lyons-Decatur 105-40 and West Point 120-40 to go undefeated in pool play.
This earned Leigh the overall one seed in bracket play. In the first round of tournament play, Leigh faced Stanton and won 155-40. This matched Leigh up with Oakland Craig in the next round, winning 130-50.
Riding their success, Leigh entered the semifinals where they had to face Bancroft-Rosalie. After a slow start to the round, Leigh came back and won 125-115 at the last second, earning the right to play in the championship.
Leigh’s dominant run came to an end in the championship, though, where they again matched up with Lyons-Decatur. This time Leigh fell short 50-90. Leigh finished as runner-up at Conference for the second time in four years.
Coach, Madison Gall said, “Finishing second is a huge accomplishment, and I am so proud of them! It was incredible to see their teamwork in action and their excitement for each other after every round!”
