Senior Spotlight: Elizabeth Hoffman

By: Averi Clausen, freshman LHS journalism staff writer on March 30, 2026

On October 17th, 2007, in Norfolk, NE, a star was brought into this world. Elizabeth Ann Hoffman is the daughter of Ryan and Kelli Hoffman and has two sisters and one brother: Cassidy is 23, Jessica is 20, and Trevor is 15.

She is a granddaughter of Roger and Karen Bruhn, who live in Leigh, and Terry and Bonnie Hoffman, who live in Wakefield. Her cat, Merida, is like a family member, but she now resides with Jessica in Lincoln.

Liz has participated in numerous activities throughout her high school career, such as FCCLA for six years; basketball, One-Act and journalism for four years; yearbook and National Honor Society for three years; golf, quiz bowl, and speech for two years, and choir for one year.

In the community, she has been involved in the Youth Advisory Committee for four years, St. John’s Luther League for four years, and the Patriot Trapshooting team for three years.

Over the years, Liz has accumulated many honors, such as being a two-time Student of the Month, being nominated for the Currency Believers and Achievers award, and consistently making high honor roll, but the few accomplishments that she is proudest of include placing 5th at National FCCLA for Professional Presentation, acting in a One Act production that advanced to state competition, and being accepted into the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Business Honors Academy.

During her summers, Liz works at the Leigh Centennial Park Pool as a lifeguard and assistant manager. Liz’s future plans include attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a degree in Marketing and participating in their Business Honors Academy.

If Liz won a fortune in the lottery, she would invest it and give back to her family, the Leigh school, and the community of Leigh—valuing these people is something she’s learned from all of her past experiences, and she would like to show appreciation for all they’ve done, if given the chance.

If she could go anywhere in the world, Liz’s dream travel destination is Venice, Italy. Since it is actively sinking, she wants to go there to see the city and the carnival before she misses her chance. She believes the culture is beautiful and it would give her an incentive to learn a new language sooner rather than later. On a similar note, three goals on Liz’s bucket list are to become fluent in another language, go scuba diving, and finally, visit a cat cafe.

One of Liz’s biggest pet peeves is when people don’t use the correct grammar or mix up common homophones, such as “there,” “their,” and “they’re.” She says her worst habit, by far, is procrastination and that she will correct it later. Three words to describe Liz are humorous, bubbly, and pedantic.

Ten to fifteen years down the road, she sees herself having a family, owning a few cats, and being dedicated to and successful at her future career. Liz admires her siblings the most because they have accomplished so much: she admires Cassidy because she graduated UNL with honors and is becoming a CPA, she admires Jess because she is now engaged and living her dream, and she admires Trevor because he is just a great, if not troublesome, kid who is very capable and smart.

Liz’s favorite high school memory is after State One Act when the whole high school binged at Pizza Ranch, which may or may not have led to the boys purging in the parking lot afterward. Her most embarrassing moment is when she was at a volleyball game and biffed it falling up the bleachers trying to deliver popcorn to Trevor, who was commentating.

Outside of schoolwork and activities, Liz loves to read, paint, and spend time with family and friends. Liz’s favorite school subject is English. Her favorite movies and TV shows are any and all Spider-Man adaptations, and her favorite musical artist is Def Leppard. She loves watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers and is excited to be a real ‘sker next year. Her favorite food is Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen’s Monte Cristo fried sandwich. Similarly, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas is her favorite book.

Liz’s advice to underclassmen is, “Never judge a book by its cover. Cliché, I know, but you might unexpectedly find that you have a passion for or are talented at something that you might not have considered in the first place, and you shouldn’t limit yourself to what you know now. Dream big!”
