Patriot GBB Ends Season in Sub-Districts

On Monday, February 16 and Tuesday February 17, the Clarkson-Leigh girls’ basketball team traveled to Omaha Nation to take on the Logan View Raiders and the Omaha Nation Chiefs in the C1-4 subdistrict match-ups.

On Monday, the Lady Patriots prepared to take on Logan View where it would be a close battle. During the first quarter, Logan View had a large lead at the beginning, but at the end of the first quarter, the Patriots had the lead 16-13. In the second quarter, the Patriots found their energy and ultimately came out outscoring Logan View. Ava Kasik led the scoring game with 13 points, which helped the girls secure the win. The Patriots were making plays defensively and had the attacking mindset offensively.

Junior Reese Wietfeld said, “We came out a little slow and didn’t play the best basketball during the first quarter, but we had people knock down shots at key times that helped us stay in the game. We limited turnovers and kept the energy high at all times.” The Patriots had caused Logan View to get in to foul trouble which put them at the Patriots at the free throw line. In the end, the Patriots came out on top with the score ending 47-37.

After the victory, the girls had a quick turnaround and had to make the same trip to Omaha Nation. This time they took on the Chiefs.

The Patriots started off slow and never had the opportunity to take the lead. It was a tough game that was very physical.

Senior Neveah Zulkoski said, “We knew coming into this game we had to have the mindset of staying physical, believing in one another, and stopping their 3-point shooters. Unfortunately, we let them get too many easy buckets and they stopped us offensively.” This led the team to a harsh loss with the score ending 28-68.

It was a great season for the Lady Patriots despite ending the year 8-17. Thank you to Ava Kasik, Elizabeth Hoffman, and Neveah Zulkoski, the seniors, who put in a lot of hard work over the past years.
