LCS is Zipping into the 2024 School Year!

Leigh’s 2024-2025 school year is off and running with the first day of school held on Friday, August 16!

After an Open House for all students and parents on Wednesday, August 14, all K-12 students were in the building on Friday.  Pre-schoolers joined the mix on Monday, August 19.

The kindergarten class is the biggest it has been in 30 years with 31 kindergarteners split between two classrooms. With 294 students walking through the halls every day, the student body is nearly double what it was a decade ago.

To begin the new school year, Mr. Cole Fischer and Mr. Andrew Faltys made grand entrances on a zipline with K-12 gathered in the gym. The staff made their own entrances reenacting some of the recent Olympic events, and a few new faces made some appearances. Mr. Ethan Hathaway is the teacher of the new JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) class, and Mrs. Ann Sobota is the new Kindergarten teacher of one of the Kindergarten classes. She also has a student teacher, Ms. Logan Fiala. A new Mechatronics class taught by Mrs. Brianne Bachman through Central Community College has also been introduced.

Not only are there new teachers and new classes, but there is also a new addition to the school building itself. Four new classrooms have been constructed on the north side of the elementary school due to the growing number of elementary students.

Senior, Brianne Kuhr said, “It was great to kick off the new school year, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish this year. I enjoyed seeing the teachers and students back in the building, and we are all eager to start our activities.”

Mr. Andrew Faltys, the 7-12 principal of Leigh Community Schools, said, “We are ‘zippin’ into the 2024-2025 school year. I am very excited for the students to be back in the building and get into a routine again. I want to wish all the athletic teams the best of luck this year. Once again, it is a great day to be a Patriot.”

We wish all students the best of luck in the new school year!
