Highway 91 Hosts Third Career Fair

Humphrey High was this year’s host for the third annual Highway 91 Career Fair.

This is a unique, one-of-a-kind opportunity for the students of Highway 91 made possible by the guidance counselors of all the schools involved.

On September 25, 2024, grades 10-12 from each school came to gain experience about future careers they might want to pursue. The schools that all attended were Leigh, Humphrey, Lindsay, Howells-Dodge, Clarkson, and St. Edward.

The career fair was very well organized, and they had people everywhere telling people where they needed to go if they couldn’t find their spot.

There were two guest speakers at the career fair this year. The first one was Dr. Katie Graham, the director of Career and Technical Education for the Nebraska Department of Education. She talked about what CTE (Career and Technical Education) is. She also talked about important things that you need to have for a career and gave some statistics on jobs.

The second guest speaker was Cam Awesome. He was the number one boxer in the nation. He tried out for the Olympics four times but never made it all the way there. He talked about how to never give up on your dreams and to not let a loss defeat you. He told us that you learn more from losses than you do from wins.

There were tons of guest speakers there to make career day happen. Speakers from all different careers came to speak, so that everyone had a chance to listen to something they were interested in. The seniors from every school also had to take part in a mock interview with area business leaders, so they are prepared for the future.  A free lunch was provided for all students by area Humphrey businesses.

Senior Ella Urban said, “It was a beneficial experience that helped students gain knowledge about future career plans that they might be interested in. The senior interviews helped them gain experience for future jobs that they will apply for.”
