Three-Peat East Husker Conference Champs!

The Patriot volleyball team completed an impressive three-peat as they emerged from the East Husker Conference volleyball tournament as the champions last week.

On Thursday, October, 17, Patriots went in to the East Husker Conference tournament seeded #1, ready to play conference volleyball. They hosted the first round of the East Husker Conference volleyball in Leigh.

The Patriots defeated the Wisner-Pilger Gators in two sets with the scores being 29-27 and 25-11.

Next, on Saturday, October 19, the finals were held in Lyons. In the first game of the day, the Patriots faced the Stanton Mustangs. The Patriots started off the day strong, defeating the Mustangs in the first set 25-17 and the second set ending 25-20.

Setter/Right Side hitter Izabel Hollatz led the game in kills with 7 along with Brynn Settje, who contributed with 14 digs.

In the championship game, the Patriots faced the #2 seed Oakland-Craig Knights for the first time this season. This was a very competitive, exciting, and challenging game for the Patriots. The game went into five sets with the Patriots falling short in the first and third sets, but defeating the Knights in the second, fourth, and fifth sets.

Their second set victory was 25-14.  The fourth set ended 29-27, and the fifth set ended 16-14.  Senior Baylee Settje said, “It was a great feeling winning the EHC tournament for the third time in a row. I feel we played really well as a team and grew from the two games we played. Against Stanton we started off really strong with some great digs and attacks, which led us to our first win of the day. We knew Oakland-Craig was going to be a tougher challenge, but we didn't let that phase us. We got behind a little bit in the first set, but we fought back the rest of the sets and never gave up, which led us to becoming conference champions. We played with a lot of energy and trust in our teammates and just played Patriot volleyball. Overall, It was a great atmosphere, and the fans really brought a lot of energy.”

Again, senior Izabel Hollatz led the game in kills with 16. Baylee settje was a force at the net with 7 blocks.

Head Coach Rebecca Schneider said “Winning our conference for the 3rd year in a row was absolutely amazing!  These girls faced adversity and showed a lot of grit to be able to pull out a 5-set win against a solid Oakland-Craig team! We definitely experienced the lows and highs of momentum, but throughout the match, we never gave up!  We felt we held our composure rather well, especially when playing from behind, and just being able to stay positive and control the things we could control was key!  These girls absolutely earned the conference title and we couldn't be prouder of them for this huge accomplishment!”

This makes the Patriots 3x East Husker Conference champions and brings their season record to 27-2!
