The Clarkson-Leigh Patriot Volleyball team had a big win against the Humphrey Lindsay Holy Family Bulldogs during Homecoming week on Thursday evening, September 15, in Humphrey.
Unfortunately, the C-team lost to begin the night, but that loss didn’t get to them. and the JV won in three sets, best of three.
“C-team battled it out, but we couldn’t pull through. JV brought the energy so we took home a win. JV also set a good tone for the varsity game,” said sophomore Brianne Kuhr.
The Bulldogs were looking to grab a win from the Patriots during the Pats’ homecoming week. They did take the Patriots to four sets, but the Patriots were in control the whole game.
The varsity team came out strong in the first set and pulled off a 25-22 win despite the Bulldogs’ intensity. The second set was a little rough, and they allowed the Bulldogs to hang around too long. Eventually the Patriots dropped set 2, 23-25.
But they came back out in the third and fourth set and took care of business right away, winning those sets 25-19 and 25-14.
“We played hard and got the win against a very good team,” said assistant Coach Rebecca Hiatt. “We played with a lot of energy and took control after splitting the first two sets. It was a great atmosphere, and the fans really brought a lot of energy.”
The win was an all-around team effort. Junior Chloe Hanel led the way with 28 kills and 20 digs. Setter Izzy Hollatz recorded 45 assists. Sophomore Brynn Settje added 5 kills and led the team in digs with 23. Junior Gracie Eisenmann and senior Korbee Wendt also chipped in with 8 kills apiece.
This win brings the Patriot varsity record to 6-3.
