Volleyball Team Returns Plenty of Talent

After an impressive summer full of hard work and dedication, 26 Patriot girls are ready to start off their bright volleyball season after finishing as the State C-2 Runner-Up last year.

On August 19th the team hosted their volleyball scrimmage in Leigh where they played each other to get warmed up for the year and try out different players on the floor together.

The Patriot volleyball team then took on Pierce and Lakeview at a Jamboree in Leigh on August 22.  A jamboree game gives teams practice against a real opponent, but does not count toward the team’s record. The Lady Patriots swept the Pierce Bluejay’s 25-15 both sets. They later ended the night by splitting sets with the Lakeview Vikings, first set 21-25 and second set 25-23. Unfortunately, during the jamboree, three-year starter, senior Brynn Settje, suffered a hamstring injury.

Senior Izabel Hollatz said, “I think that we will have another great season this year! We had a very successful summer at our team camps and Top Ten in Kearney, so I am very excited to see what this season brings and can’t wait to show everyone the hard work we have been putting in this summer and the past few weeks!”

This year’s team is stacked with 6 seniors, Cadence Indra, McKenna Hake, Riley Balzer, Izabel Hollatz, Brynn Settje, and Baylee Settje.

The small but mighty group of juniors include Kendall Schneider, Ava Kasik, and Karly Wendt.

The sophomore group of 10 girls includes Vylet Hollatz, Reese Wietfeld, Maizie Stoklasa, Graicee Sortino, Kyla Clarkson, Ava Baumert, Ella Baumert, Raelynn Scott, Chelsy Matthies, and Claire Holoubek.

The freshman class is coming in with Sadie Brabec, Lainey Urban, McKenna Scott, Josie Brabec, Chloe Indra, and Ellison Koehn

They are coached by Mrs. Becky Schneider and assisted by Mr. Tyler Brester, Mrs. Brianne Bachman, Ms. Rebecca Hiatt, and Ms. Mallori Kucera.

This is what coach Brester had to say about this coming season:

“The volleyball team has been working really hard this off season in hopes to duplicate the success we sustained last year. We have a lot of talent returning and some underclassmen who are ready to step into a full-time playing role. The girls have been working their tails off in the gym, weight room, and at camps. Hopefully everyone can make it to some games this year and see all of the hard work the girls have put in, pay off on the court.”

The Patriot’s first true test will come in their first series of games at the Centennial Tournament in Utica on Saturday, August 30.

We wish the Patriot girls the best of luck this season!
