Patriots Dominate Centennial Tourney

“I can't wait to see what the season has in store for us!”

These are the words of senior leader Baylee Settje after the Patriots crushed the competition in their first games of the year at the Centennial High School volleyball tournament held in Utica on Saturday, August 31.

The Patriots played four games and won them all, bringing home first-place championship medals!

To kick off the day, the Patriots played Bishop-Neumann. The first set ended 25-17, and the final set, 25-17, Patriots winning.

Their next match saw the Patriots playing Fairbury, but the Jeffs were no match for the Pats. The first set ended with the Patriots winning 25-19, and for the final set, they won 25-17.

Their third game of the day was against Wilber-Clatonia. Clarkson-Leigh made quick work of this game with the first set score Patriots 25, Wolverines 5. The second set was Patriots 25, Wolverines 9.

For the Patriots’ final game, they played the home team Centennial in the championship match. The score of the first set was 25-23, and the second set 25-17, Patriots winning them both!

"Overall, I thought we played very well during the Centennial tournament,” Settje continued.  “We played very well as a team for it being our first regular-season games. We played hard and communicated well as a team.”

Coach Brianne Bachman stated, “The volleyball tournament at Centennial was a great way to kick off our season. The girls played four games and didn’t drop a set. It was great to see the girls back on the court and some of the younger girls stepping into some varsity roles. Girls had great energy and they are motivated to work their way back to the state tournament. They came out ready to play and we are excited for a great season!”
