Patriots Beat Scouts, Fall to Cadets

After a close win against the Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers on December 12th, the Patriot girls’ basketball team faced off against the David City Scouts and West Point-Beemer Cadets on December 17th and December 19th.

After a victory for the JV girls, the varsity girls were excited and ready to take action against the David City Scouts. Even though Clarkson-Leigh got off to a slow start, they ended up pulling out the win 45-34. Brynn Settje led the team in points with 19.

Then on to Thursday when the girls’ basketball team met up with the West Point-Beemer Cadets.

Against West Point-Beemer, the JV girls started the night off right with a win. Then next up was the girls’ varsity game. The Patriots started the game out slow and never found the opportunity to pull ahead. This led the Clarkson-Leigh girls’ basketball team to a very hard loss against the Cadets.

After these games the Patriots girls’ basketball team has a record of 3-3.

Sophomore Reese Wietfeld said, “The David City game was a great win for our team. I thought that we came out with a lot of energy and played very well! It took some time for our shots to fall, but once they started falling, we kept pushing the basketball and making big shots. Coming into the game we knew we had to be physical and confident if we wanted to win, and that's exactly what we did. Coming into the West Point game we knew we had to be physical and have a strong mindset. It took a while for shots to fall. In the end, it didn’t go in our favor. We gained some momentum in the third quarter but couldn’t pull away with the win. Our team learned a lot from this game and we can only grow from here.”

Assistant coach Willie Hollatz said, “Against David City we started off slow but ended up playing a great second half to comeback for a good win. Then at West Point-Beemer we had a hard time getting the offense going and keeping them off the offensive glass. We will definitely use this game as a learning experience for the future.”
