Patriots Down the Defenders

On Friday, January 17, the Archangel Defenders traveled to Leigh to take on the Lady Patriots. The Patriots got up in the first quarter before being outscored in the second and third. But thanks to a strong showing in the fourth quarter, the Patriots came away with a close win. The final score was 37-35.

Junior Neveah Zulkoski said, "It was a fun game to play because the gym was packed full since it was parents' night. You could hear the crowd cheering and biting their nails because it was a close game. I had a little pressure on me at the end of the game because I had to shoot two free throws to extend our lead. I missed the first one, but made the second. We ended up winning, and it was very exciting."

The next day, the Patriots played in Pender. Despite a good effort by the Patriots, Pender was able to pull ahead early and stay there despite attempts made by the Patriots. The final score was 29-56.

"We knew going into Saturday it would be tough competition, but we went out there and gave it our all,” said junior Elizabeth Hoffman. “On defense, we worked hard to get some stops and tried to hit some shots offensively. We are definitely looking forward to upcoming games and the conference tournament."
