Boys Suffer Losses in Conference Play

Varsity Boys Basketball battled during the East Husker Conference tournament against Howells-Dodge and Wisner-Pilger. Their games were hosted in Oakland and Wakefield. As the #12 seed, they played against the #5-ranked Jaguars on the 1st of February, and the #11-ranked Gators on the 4th of February.

The Patriots had a hard start to the game against Howells-Dodge with only scoring 2 points, as the Jaguars scored 17. Even with the challenging start, the Patriots still gave it their all, scoring 16 points in the second quarter.

After struggling in the first half, the Patriots weren’t able to overcome the Jaguars. The score ended up being 30-72 in favor of the Jaguars.

The loss meant the Patriots had one more game in Conference against another losing team – the Gators. The Patriots had a close matchup with the Gators a few weeks prior, and now they had another chance to battle them.

The first half of the game the Patriots scored 22 points, and Gators scored 26, making it a close game. Clarkson-Leigh got down by five points in the third quarter, and they weren’t able to make up the deficit in the fourth.

The Patriots had the game within just a few points in the fourth, but after fouling and free throws at the end, they fell just short and ended up losing 50-58.

Kyle McMullin was the high scorer against the Gators with 15, and Wyatt Crosley was the high scorer against the Jaguars with 13.

Head Coach, Mr. Jeff Bachman, said, “It was a tough week for us as we were battling a lot of illness. I was proud of how the guys showed up and battled.”

Kyle McMullin, a junior starter, said, “We battled hard in these games, but weren't able to come out with any wins. We had some mistakes that were too much to overcome against a quality Howells-Dodge team. We set ourselves up to win against Wisner-Pilger, but couldn't come out with a win. Hopefully we learn something from these games and continue to improve.”
