Junior High Girls Find Success Before Break

The junior high girls’ basketball had a packed week with three games right before the Christmas break.

On Monday, December 16, they played Columbus Scotus in Leigh with both the A and B teams losing with a score of 16-37 in the A game and 9-20 in the B game.

8th grader Avery Kuester spoke about the Scotus game saying, “We truly all worked hard during this game. It was hard and it definitely wasn't the outcome we wanted, but I would say that we improved and we did some good things. I hope to keep on improving for our future games and hopefully get some more wins!”

On Tuesday the 17th they did just that! The girls traveled to Schuyler and won both matchups with A winning 22-20 and B also winning 17-12.

8th grader Averi Clausen said, “We played very well and ran our plays thoroughly. We had some mistakes but there's always room for improvement. We had a good lead until we started turning over the ball. We ended up winning 20-22 in the A team game. The B team went super well too. We had a very good Tuesday and we brought home a dub!”

On Thursday, in their final game of the week, the girls went to Madison and the A team won 30-9 and the B team also won 28-7.

7th grader Bergan Settje said about the Madison game, “I think both games went very well and everyone worked very hard. I think we moved the ball well and had some great shots and overall everyone worked as a team and communicated throughout the whole game. We had great offense and defense. Offensively we found a way to shoot and get to the hoop. Defensively we stopped them from shooting and scoring as much. Everyone worked very hard from the start to the end. I can say we have improved since the first few games and am glad we could get a win and I can’t wait to see how our last few games will go this season.”

The JH girls are now 2-7 for the season.
