Patriots Battle the Bobcats

On Friday, August 30, the Exeter-Milligan-Friend football team traveled to Leigh, Nebraska, to take on the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots in an exciting opening week game. In 2023, the Bobcats finished runner up in class D-1, falling to Stanton. They continued their success from the previous season, defeating the Patriots 50-20.

The Bobcats started the game out hot with an opening kick return for a touchdown. The following possession, the Patriots fought their way down the field to add a touchdown of their own. On the ensuing kickoff, the Bobcats scored another touchdown on their kick return. The Bobcats continued their scoring throughout the first half with the score being 36-12 at halftime.

In the second half the Bobcats outscored the Patriots 14-8. Although the Patriots battled after some early setbacks, they couldn’t quite catch the Bobcats.

Head Coach, Mr. Jim Clarkson said, “Tough first game as we had a lot of new faces on the field. We put ourselves in a hole early, but I was happy with the effort in which we played. We will learn a lot from this game and continue to improve.

Junior Brett Wemhoff said, “It was a good learning experience. We had a lot of young guys out there. Hopefully we will continue to improve.”
