Patriots Handle the Panthers
By: Kyle McMullin, junior LHS journalism staff writer On Friday, October 11, the Clarkson-Leigh Patriots traveled to St. Edward to play the Newman Grove/Saint Edward Panthers. With a win, the Patriots would secure a spot in the playoffs. With a lot on the line, the Patriots came out hot, scoring 34 points in the first quarter. The Patriots kept up the scoring in the second half, while the Panthers couldn’t keep up. The Patriots controlled the entire game on both sides of the ball. The final score was 56-0. This win puts Clarkson-Leigh into the playoffs for the 13th straight season. The 4-3 Patriots will face the 7-0 David City Scouts in Clarkson on October 18th to end their regular season. Sophomore Blake Loseke said, “It was fun to be able to see everyone play as a team. It was really cool to punch our way into the playoffs.” Head Coach Jim Clarkson said, “It was exciting to punch our ticket to the playoffs, Coach McEvoy has really been cooking with the offense lately, so it is fun to watch that improve.
