By: Emily Loseke, a senior at Leigh High School

The Highway 91 Cyclones have officially started their season, and as everyone can see, they mean business and are ready to play.

On August 24th, the Cyclones made the drive and defeated Boone Central with a final score of 9-0. The next day, they repeated the victory and beat Pierce 9-4 at the Leigh field.

In the Boone Central game, the Cyclones scored right off the bat with three runs in the first inning. Throughout the game, they fielded with precision and didn’t allow Boone Central to score a single run.

Senior Kyleigh Rayback said, “We came out Saturday focused and ready to go, and we were very impressed with the outcome. Losing our last game on Saturday didn’t kill our energy as we came out Monday at Boone Central and had the same energy if not more. We set the bar high, and we have high expectations for the rest of the season.”

Head coach Adam Indra said, “All around it was a complete game. The girls did a great job of staying focused coming off the weekend success and never giving a good Boone Central team any momentum.”

The following day, August 25th, the Highway 91 Cyclones played against Pierce, but they also celebrated parents’ night and their seniors. The seniors this year are Rylee Olson, Kyleigh Rayback, and Riana Grotelueschen.

This game was the Cyclones’ first home-field success, and the bleachers were packed with people cheering them on. Right away in the first inning, the Cyclones scored three runs and earned an early lead against Pierce. As the game continued, Pierce scored four runs, but the home team managed to stay on top.

Coach Indra said, “It’s always tough playing teams multiple times especially days apart. With a different lineup, parents’ night, senior night, and all the festivities and emotions that go with it, the girls did a good job of staying focused and getting the job done.”
