Cyclones Finish Season 9-16

The Highway 91 Cyclone softball team finished up their season with a first-round loss to David City Aquinas in the Class C Sub Districts hosted by Ashland-Greenwood.

During the game the girls struggled right off the start. This affected them the rest of the game. The girls ended up losing to Aquinas Catholic 0-8.

The teams that were in the Sub District were Ashland-Greenwood, Highway 91, Tekamah-Herman, and Aquinas Catholic. Ashland-Greenwood ended up winning the sub-district conference with a 16-10 record

The Cyclones finished the year with a 9-16 record.

Sophomore Reann Bruhn stated, “We struggled in the beginning but towards the end we started coming together a bit. It wasn't enough to push through and the game didn't end the way we were hoping. Coming back from that, it gives us some learning and experience to work with next year. With that loss the season now comes to an end for us saying goodbye to our seniors.”

Coach Drew Machmueller stated, “Monday, we made a couple mistakes that allowed Aquinas to get up on us early and we couldn’t string together enough hits offensively to give ourselves a chance. For the season first of all, I want to thank Jordyn and Addy, our two seniors, for their time and effort in the Cyclone program. I was very excited about the number of girls we had out this season.

Machmueller continues, “I really hope that interest in softball continues to grow. I think we took some steps forward as a group and showed flashes of what we can become going forward.  I want to also recognize that 10 of our 16 losses this year were to teams who made it to a district final.  Certainly there are things we need to improve on for next year, but I believe the girls returning are up to the challenge.”
