Leigh FFA Shines at State Fair

Two of the most stressful weeks of the year for some of our FFA members came to an end September 1 and were definitely worth the hard work.
The Nebraska State Fair took place in Grand Island, Nebraska from August 22 to September 1. Weekend number 1 was the 4H show, while the second weekend was the FFA and open class shows.
“Nothing beats a day at the Nebraska State Fair. It's always so much fun hanging out with your friends and getting to show your animals that you worked all year with. I made a lot of good memories with friends and family at the state fair this year, ones that I won't soon forget!” said freshman Avery Kuester.
Junior Carmen Malena stated, “State fair was a super exciting time where we were able to showcase our projects that we have been working on all year. It was fun to see our chapter excel in all that everyone competed in. I always love seeing all of my friends from other chapters that are there showing as well. Overall, it was a fun time that I was super happy with!”
LCS junior high and high school students had a very successful state fair this year on both weekends! All the members who competed at this event had worked a lot of hours over the last couple months leading up to these few weeks. Their results to follow:

Cody Jedlicka:
- Blue in Showmanship
- 5th in Class Market Steer
Carmen Malena:
- 2nd in Class Market Barrow
- Reserve Overall Purebred Spot
Daphne Jedlicka:
- Blue in Showmanship
- 2nd in Class White Face Influence
- 7th in Class Natural Market Lamb
Cruz Malena:
- 6th Intermediate Showman
- 1st in class Purple
FFA Weekend:
Carmen Malena:
- 4th Junior Showman
- Blue in a Market Barrow Class
Daphne Jedlicka
- 2nd Junior Showman
- 5th in Class Crossbred Market Lamb
- 4th in Class Market Ewe
Cash Fehringer:
- Open Class 4 in Class with Crossbred Gilt
- 3rd in class Yorkshire Barrow
- 5th in class Crossbred Breeding Gilt
- Other gilt got 7th in class
- Showmanship 6th overall in the open show and 5th overall in the FFA
Avery Kuester
- Purple in showmanship and made it to freshman finals
- Reserve Champion Continental Market Animal
- 5th overall Market Beef
Cruz Malena:
- Reserve Junior High FFA Showman
- 3rd overall Market Gilt
Layton Held:
- Second in class Market Heifer
- Made it back in for Grand Champion Market Heifer
Cooper Fehringer:
- Purple in Market Barrow Class
- Blue in Breeding Gilt Class
- 8th overall Showman
- Blue in open class show with gilt
