The Importance of Study Hall

Launch the media gallery 1 playerAlmost all students can say that they absolutely despise homework. Even teachers aren’t fans of staying up late grading papers. With athletics, extracurriculars, and work added on top of student’s long day, finding time after school hours to complete homework can become difficult.
Most kids are eager and excited to get out of school and just relax and enjoy the rest of their day off. Meanwhile some students still have practices to attend or even work until later in the evening. Homework can become another stressful task added onto students' already long days.
For these reasons, I think study halls are extremely important for students. Study halls give students an opportunity to just sit down and focus on their work. It also gives students a chance to ask questions and get help on classes they may be struggling in. Teachers also get the chance to grade papers during study halls to avoid them from stay up late at night.
As someone who is very involved in athletics and extracurriculars, study halls are important to me. I’m always at practice or games late, and when I get home I don’t always want to do homework. Sometimes I just want to be able to go home and relax and go to bed.
Currently our school runs a rotating study hall schedule. This means study hall is not a class every day, but one day we might have second period study hall, then the next day it is third period. I appreciate being able to get study halls, but they aren’t always guaranteed. Teachers have the ability to take those study halls away if they want. I’d rather have a study hall as an elective class that I can sign up for while creating my schedule.
I personally believe that study halls are important for and that all schools should offer study halls so it helps students out. They give students a chance to get homework done or even get help on classes they are struggling with!
