I am going to guess that you do not tell yourself, “I want to watch a movie about people working in an office.” No one would want to watch a television show about people working in an office because binge watchers want something entertaining to get hooked on. However, the show The Office is unlike any other television show you will find scrolling through your television’s channel list; The Office has characters unlike any other television show, and the plot of The Office is always changing.
It is impressive that The Office is able to make an everyday-boring job into something people want to watch in their free time. The sitcom has made such an impact on society by generating countless memes, quotes, and references. Within my own life, I reference The Office daily with my teachers and classmates. The final episode of The Office was released in 2013, yet The Office is still relevant today. In 2020, Americans streamed more than 57 billion minutes of it. Americans love all of the comedy in The Office.
Since the comedy takes place at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, you would not think the show would be very exciting. However, the characters are what make the show so entertaining. The Office is a mockumentary; this means that the characters interact directly with the audience. The Office is supposed to be a documentary about a paper company, but there are so many things the characters do that make the plot entertaining. Michael Scott, Dwight Schrute, and Jim Halpert are the main characters of The Office. They are always involved in shenanigans, and the audience never knows what out of the blue thing is going to happen. Jim pulls many pranks on Dwight, and Dwight has some odd hobbies. Michael always makes jokes that do not go over well with his employees, but the audience finds Michael’s jokes hilarious.
Other side characters in The Office are just as important as the main characters. The side characters play important roles in comedic timing because they say things at just the right times, and it is nice to know the side characters’ thoughts. Throughout the seasons of The Office, the side characters have their moments to shine, and they get their stories told. The Office has everything from an old man with heart problems to a crazy cat lady. All of the characters combined create an ever-changing plot that keeps the audience intrigued.
Even though The Office originally sounds like something you would just scroll right past on your television, it has taken something so mundane and made it a hilarious television show that will always provide you a good laugh. The Office has been so popular that it has provided references that I hear every day. The characters and crazy plot make The Office a popular choice among Americans. Keep The Office in mind when you want to watch a funny television show that will instantly become your favorite television show.
