Student Opinion: Thankful For Classmates
A support system can be defined as a group of people who provide you with mental, emotional, and practical support when you need it most. For me, I consider my class my biggest support system.
Since I have a summer birthday, in preschool, I had to choose between two amazing classes to be “stuck with” all the way through elementary, junior high, and high school. Now that I look back on my decision to stay with the younger class, I thank my little preschool self every day. I’ve been with most of my classmates since preschool and kindergarten with some additions coming in along the journey.
I come to school thankful every day, knowing that I get to be with the best support system around: my classmates.
The junior class consists of 14 uniquely amazing people. We are one of the smallest classes in the entire school, but I think that is ok. By having a smaller class, we are all able to talk with each other and grow stronger connections one on one. Everyone talks to everyone and I try to spark a conversation with each of my classmates every day. I truly believe that having a smaller class will always be better than having a bigger class.
I consider myself a very lucky person for being able to come to class every day and not be worried about any drama. High school itself is already stressful at times, but having a class that gets along and helps each other makes high school 10 times better. Because we all get along, it leads to a mound full of jokes throughout the day. I can 100% say I haven’t left a day of school without laughing at least once. My class never fails to put a smile on my face.
I don’t know of any other classes in any school that can say they have an ongoing class slide show. This is a slide show that our whole class starting putting together in 5th grade just for fun. It consists of the most random and funny pictures that we took back in our elementary days. Our class still updates and adds pictures to it each year. It’s fun to see how everyone in the class has changed throughout the years. As cheesy as it sounds, one of my favorite activities to do when I’m feeling down is to go through this slide show. The slide show always brightens my mood and reminds me to live in the moment because time goes by faster than you think.
I am grateful every day for the fact that there is always someone in my class willing to help me, not only with school work but also with activities outside of school. My class is also full of scholars, so they all push me to become a better student. My class is always giving each other encouragement. Without some of my classmates, I would not have tried some of the extracurriculars that I now do and love.
A quote that Mr. Fischer and Mr. Faltys say every year on the seniors' last day of school, is “This could be the last time you and all of your classmates are in the same room together.” This quote always hits me hard each time I hear them say it because I can’t imagine living life without my classmates. I know we will inevitably all graduate and move on from this building and start different lives and families of our own. And that’s a good thing, but it doesn’t always seem like one right now. So that quote motivates me to go to school on days when school is the last thing I want to do. I use this quote as a daily reminder to be thankful for the class I have. To be thankful I have a class that supports me, encourages me, and brings me joy. I’m so grateful I still have one more year left of high school to spend with the greatest class anyone could ask for and make some more amazing memories.
