Student Opinion: Bullying Can Be Prevented

Bullying is something that can happen to anyone, anywhere, whether it is on the phone, in person, or silent bullying. Silent bullying is where people make fun of someone behind their back and the other person does not know about it.

Let’s face it.  Bullying is everywhere in the world, and with social media taking on a bigger role in society, it makes bullying more frequently and allows people to say things to people online that they would not say to their face.

Fortunately, bullying can be prevented in many ways, and the best place to start is with yourself. The biggest thing to remember is to always treat people they way you want to be treated.  If you don’t like someone, you can just not have them on social media.  Bullying someone takes time out of your day that you could be studying or doing your homework. Nowadays bullying is more frequent because of cyberbullying. People get angry when they are treated unkindly, but then they treat someone unkindly online in return.  To prevent bullying, remember that you are a role model in younger children’s lives, and elementary students look up to you.

Yes, bullying can be prevented if you stay positive, have confidence in yourself, and treat others the way you want to be treated. And if bullying does happen to you, don’t forget you always have somewhere to turn—your peers, teachers, administrators, or your parents can help you solve your differences with your bully or put an end to it.
