Female Wrestlers Take to the Mats!
New Extracurricular Activity Offered at Leigh!
Since 2021, girls’ wrestling has been an NSAA school-sanctioned sport, but this is the first year Clarkson-Leigh has brought their own girls to the competition mats. Leigh seventh graders Lexie Bruhn and Kinzie Lange first showed some interest prior to the winter season, which started the idea for the first Lady Patriot program.
This season, Lexie and Kinzie competed independently in the girls bracket at several different meets and even attended an all-girls invite with almost 400 other lady wrestlers. In preparation for these competitions, they practiced maneuvers and sparred with each other. With continued interest from girls of all levels from Clarkson-Leigh, the sport will hopefully continue to grow.
“I was glad to have the opportunity to wrestle,” said Lange, “It was an amazing experience to be part of the first group of girls to practice and compete for the Patriots.”
Lexie and Kinzie wrestled under the coaching of Mr. Molacek, Mr. Bazata, and other knowledgeable assistant coaches.
Bruhn stated, "I was very happy that the coaches were accepting and it was a very fun experience. It was fun being the first girl for the Patriots in JH and representing the Patriots."
