Leigh Elementary Celebrates Grandparents Day
Leigh Community Schools had full bleachers, countless smiles, and many special grandparents of elementary students who gathered for an afternoon of fun-filled activities on September 11th.
LCS hosted a Grandparents Day celebration to recognize the special bond between grandparents and their grandchildren that is nationally celebrated on Sunday, September 13th this year. All grandparents of elementary students in every grade were invited to the school. A crowd of 300 grandparents showed up to celebrate with their grandkids on Friday afternoon.
Mr. Fischer led the conversation with the crowd about what school was like for the grandparents vs. what school is like for their grandchildren now. Students were able to show their classrooms off to their grandparents. To show the students’ and staffs’ appreciation, everyone who attended was treated to a cookie!
Special recognition was given to Charmayne Brabec, who had the most grandkids with 26 total, and the most grandkids to ever attend Leigh, which is 16!
Sixth-grader, Barret Svitak said his favorite part of Grandparents Day was “spending time with my grandparents and having fun with them.”
“Watching students listen to their grandparents share school memories was so special and even sweeter was hearing the grandparents banter back and forth, remembering the good old days together or compare stories!” said Leigh guidance counselor Mrs. Maddie Gall.
