Friday March 28th, Leigh junior Luke Eisenmann went to Kearney to compete in Extemporaneous Speaking in Class D1 State Speech. He qualified after placing 2nd in his district, and he went on to compete against 17 other extemporaneous speakers from across the state.
He started off the day at 7:30 by getting 3rd place in his first round. His second round was tough and he finished 5th. His final round really went in his favor, and he finished 1st. With the combined scores, he narrowly missed making finals, receiving 7th place overall! Mariah McBride of Red Cloud won the competition.
Head speech coach Ethan Hathaway said, “State speech went well. We went down to Kearney the night before and got to the University of Nebraska-Kearney at 7 am and he had his first round at 7:30. It went very well as he made it to the 3rd round and got first. I'm very proud of Luke! More to come next year!!”
Assistant Coach Kim Loseke said. “There were a lot of interesting topics for the extemp speeches. Luke did a great job writing and delivering three speeches!”
“State speech was a great experience,” Luke said. I had a tough topic draw my second round, and it showed in my placing. It would have been nice to make finals, but I’m pleased with how I competed overall. I am thankful to my coaches for a great speech season.”
