All FCCLA STAR Competitors Advance to State!

Members of the Leigh Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter showcased their skills and leadership at the District STAR Event Competition held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Schuyler Central High School. 

16 students from Leigh FCCLA Chapter competed in 7 different STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, demonstrating their dedication to developing leadership skills, career preparation, and making a positive impact on their communities.  All 16 students qualified to state in their events!

Mrs. Megan Hillen, Leigh FCCLA Chapter Adviser, praised the students for their hard work and commitment: “Our members have worked tirelessly to prepare for these events, and their success reflects their passion and dedication to creating a better future for themselves and their communities.”

Highlights from the competition include:

  • Izzy Hollatz and Baylee Settje, competing in Chapter Service Project Portfolio, earned first/gold and qualified for state.
  • Brynn Settje, Ella Urban, and Brianne Kuhr, competing in Chapter Service Project Display, earned first/gold and qualified for state.
  • Elizabeth Hoffan and Trevor Hoffman, competing in Professional Presentation, earned first/gold and qualified for state.
  • Jocelyn Donnelly and Halle Korth, competing in Promote and Publicize FCCLA! They earned first/gold and qualified for state. 
  • Ava Kasik and Karly Wendt, competing in Repurpose and Redesign, earned second/silver and qualified for state. 
  • Ella Higby, Vylet Hollatz, and Emersyn Urban, competing in National Programs and Action, earned first/gold and qualified for state. 
  • Bergan Settje and Ella Hansen, competing in Professional Presentation, earned second/silver and qualified for state. 

The state qualifiers are now preparing to compete at the Nebraska FCCLA State STAR Event Competition, which will take place on Monday, April 7, 2025 in Lincoln, NE. Their achievements at the district level have set the stage for even greater accomplishments in the months to come.

Junior State Qualifier Liz Hoffman said, “District STAR was so much fun. I enjoyed going out and presenting with my brother and qualifying for state with all the other Leigh participants.  I’m proud to be part of another successful year of STAR!”

Mrs. Hillen continued to say, "I am thrilled that all seven groups have qualified for the State STAR competition! I am incredibly proud of the dedication and effort they demonstrated. Their hard work and the way they represented our school and chapter are truly commendable."
