Carter Brabec, Ella Urban, and Vylet Hollatz Named “Students of the Month”
At Leigh High School, something that we do every year is celebrate Students of the Month each month. This is when three outstanding students get nominated for all their hard work, intelligence, and positive personalities toward anything that they may be doing. The students of the month for December are Carter Brabec, Ella Urban, and Vylet Hollatz.
Our first winner is senior Carter Brabec. He is the son of Andy and April Brabec. His grandparents are Charmayne and the late Gary Brabec, and Lucy Rankin and the late Larry Nathan.
Carter is involved in are FFA, One-Act play, and YAC. His favorite class is shop class, where he does hands-on activities.
While outside of school, Carter enjoys working and hanging out with friends.
For Carter’s future, he plans to attend Northeast Community college, where he will study Diversified Ag, so that he can go back to the family farm and drive trucks for a living.
This is Carter’s first time winning this award, and he said, “It is nice to win this award because it shows that the teachers do pay attention to the students' hard work”
Here’s what Carter’s teachers had to say:
--Carter has always tried hard in school and taken school seriously. He is an extremely nice person who would go out of their way to help anyone, as is evidenced by him helping Chris put up the care closet for FCCLA last week. He is also funny and makes class interesting.
--Carter has done a great job in JAG class. We are collaborating with Mr. Bazata on their Nucor sculptor project and Carter has really taken responsibility with leading the project.
Our next outstanding student is senior Ella Urban. She is the daughter of Josh and Robin Urban. Her grandparents are Dean and Cindy Urban and Judy Blessen and the late Gary Blessen.
Some extracurricular activities that Ella is involved in are golf, dance, journalism, One-Act Play, FCCLA, FBLA, NHS, and YAC.
Ella’s favorite class is Culinary Arts. When she isn’t in school, she loves to spend time with friends and family.
For Ella’s future plans she is still unsure on what she wants to study, but she knows she's going to attend Wayne State College.
Ella has been an amazing student throughout her 4 years here at Leigh, helping her to get this award three times. She says it feels good to receive this award knowing that all of the work that I put into school is being acknowledged.
Here is what Ella’s teachers had to say:
--“Ella is such a great and positive student. She is hard-working, and always smiling. Ask her to do anything, and she will get it done.”
--“Ella is a fun, hard-working student who cares about doing well and contributes well in her extracurriculars. She is kind to everyone she sees.”
Our final student of the month for December is sophomore Vylet Hollatz. She is the daughter of Willie and Kylie Hollatz. Her grandparents are Dave and Joan Hollatz of Creston and Jim and Lanette Bathen of David City.
Some extracurricular activities that Vylet is involved in are volleyball, basketball, track, FCCLA, FBLA, One act, journalism, and yearbook.
Her favorite class in school is FCS. Outside of school she enjoys many other activities such as playing sports and spending time with her friends and family.
Vylet plans to be an esthetician when she gets older.
This is the first time Vylet has won this award and she said, "Student of the Month is an amazing award and I'm honored that the teachers have seen all my hard work."
“Vylet is an extremely hard worker in the classroom and in extracurriculars, and it shows by her good grades and success in activities. She always has a smile on her face and is polite and respectful. She is just a great kid!”
“Vylet really cares about learning and her academics. She is very bright and puts forth 100% effort in all she does. She also has really played large roles in all her extracurriculars this year.”
