October Students of the Month are Izzy Hollatz, Baylee Settje, and Kaycee Lange
At the start of every month the LHS high schoolers have an assembly that is called “Student of the Month.” The Leigh teachers vote each month on who they think has done a great job as a student in our school. Students can be nominated for listening, being respectful, having a good attitude, showing improvement, excelling in extracurriculars, or getting good grades. The first winners of this year are Izzy Hollatz, Baylee Settje, and Kaycee Lange.
The first Student of the Month winner was senior Izzy Hollatz. Her parents are Willie and Kylie Hollatz of Creston. Her grandparents are Dave and Joan Hollatz of Creston and Jim and Lanette Bathen of David City.
The extracurricular activities Izzy participates in include volleyball, basketball, track, dance team, FCCLA, FBLA, One-Act, National Honor Society, Journalism, and Yearbook. Her favorite subject in school is any FCS class. Her favorite hobbies outside of school include playing sports and spending time with friends and family. Her future plans are to major in nursing at Northeast.
As this is Izzy’s sixth time winning this award she says, "I am excited that the teachers noticed all of the hard work I have put in this year so far, and it's amazing to be recognized as Student of the Month!"
Izzy’s teachers say that Izzy is such a hard worker; that she excels in everything with a smile on her face at all times. She is fun to have in class, she works hard, and she truly cares about being successful.
The second winner of Student of the Month is senior Baylee Settje. Her parents are Chad and Kristi Settje of Creston. As this is Baylee’s fourth time winning this award she states, "It felt really great after receiving Student of the Month because it shows me that the teachers see all my hard work that I have been putting into the classroom and my extracurriculars."
Baylee’s teachers say that she is always positive and upbeat. She works very hard in class and in her extra curriculars. She is a good role model and truly fun to have in class.

Kaycee participates in FBLA, One-Act, and band. Her favorite school subjects are English and history/civics. When she is not at school, she likes to read, embroider, write, and play with her younger sisters. Right now, she plans to be a teacher of some sort.
This is her first time winning Student of the Month. Kaycee’s teachers say that she is always friendly, positive, and converses well with adults as well as her peers. She seems to get along well with whoever she is working with. She participates in class and asks questions. She is diligent in her work. She is a great addition to the freshman class and had started off the school year on a positive note.
