Senior Class Job Shadows in Norfolk

As the seniors prepare to make their way into the world, they had one final opportunity on Wednesday, March 1, to gain some job shadowing experience.

After working on resumes and interview skills, Mr. Volquardsen and Mrs. Held brought all seniors to Norfolk to job shadow whatever occupation they chose. Upon returning, all seniors were required to write a paper on their experiences throughout the day.

One senior named Ried Krutz went to Vulcraft, where he shadowed a drafter/modeler, engineer, information technology specialist, and administrator. Vulcraft is a Nucor Detailing Center that provides drafting/modeling support and services to the rest of the Nucor divisions.

"It was nice being able to go to a place that I have always wanted to go and be able to see how things are made, Krutz said.  “Vulcraft was a very interesting place and I got to talk to a lot of people that have a lot of different roles in the process of making a Nucor building."

In addition to Vulcraft, other students shadowed at Westside Family Pet Clinic, Faith Regional Hospital, Nucor, Power Computing, Norfolk City Police Department, Norfolk High School, and Applebees.

“It turned out to be a positive experience for all involved from my group,” Mr. Volquardsen said.  “Each one had a unique experience that showed them what it is like on a daily basis in a profession of their interest.”
